California High-Speed Rail, Construction Package 1
Madera to Fresno, California

The California High-Speed Rail Construction Package 1 is a design-build contract for the first portion of the Initial Operating Segment of the 800-mile high-speed rail project which will connect California's major urban centers. This contract covers a 29-mile stretch between Avenue 17 in Madera County to East American Avenue in Fresno County. The project includes three viaducts, two trenches, one jacked box tunnel, 28 grade separations for roadways and non-roadways along the alignment, approach embankments, and pavement associated with roadway improvements.

EMI provided surface explorations and laboratory testing necessary to supplement existing geotechnical data along the alignment in order to provide adequate information for geotechnical engineering analyses, geologic and seismic hazard evaluations, and preparation of geotechnical recommendations pertaining to design and construction of bridge structures, MSE walls, and pavement sections.

EMI conducted the ground breaking soil investigation for the very first segment of the California High Speed Rail construction project (The Fresno Bee news article).
